About The Position

The Regional Sports Director provides leadership and operational oversight for youth and adult sports programs across an assigned region of the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. This position is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality, and consistent sports operations by supporting branch staff, standardizing program delivery, developing volunteers and coaches, managing regional budgets, and driving program growth. Working collaboratively with the Association Sports Director and branch leadership, the Regional Sports Director ensures YMCA sports programs reflect the organization's mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to exceptional participant experiences.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 with a high school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum three years of leadership experience in youth sports, recreation, or a related field, including staff supervision, volunteer management, program development, and budget oversight.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead multiple locations, build community partnerships, and manage competing priorities.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Completion of YMCA required training
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and travel throughout the assigned region.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regional leadership and oversight for youth and adult sports programs, ensuring consistent, safe, and high-quality operations across assigned YMCA branches.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate sports staff, officials, and volunteers while fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, sportsmanship, and exceptional customer service.
  • Champion a culture of excellence by leading high-quality programs, promoting membership and program participation, and creating welcoming, engaging, and five-star experiences for members, participants, and families.
  • Collaborate with the Association Sports Director and branch leadership to implement strategic initiatives, expand programming, improve operational consistency, and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Develop and manage regional program budgets, monitor financial performance, and recommend strategies to improve participation, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of leagues, clinics, camps, tournaments, and special events that meet community needs and YMCA standards.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, abuse risk management practices, state and local regulations, volunteer screening requirements, and safety standards, including staff training, supervision, and incident reporting.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools, municipalities, community organizations, volunteers, sponsors, and other strategic partners to strengthen regional sports programming.
  • Respond professionally to participant and member concerns, resolve operational issues, and model a welcoming, service-focused environment for participants, families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Support marketing initiatives, fundraising efforts, sponsorship development, and the Annual Support Campaign while promoting YMCA sports throughout the community.
  • Travel regularly between assigned branch locations, provide operational support to branch teams.
  • Serve as a leader in branch fundraising activities for the Annual Support Campaign, including the solicitation of funds to support financial assistance, military family initiatives, community outreach, and branch goals and objectives.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.
