About The Position

The Regional Sales Manager drives Surly Brewing Company performance and achieves plan objectives by providing oversight of distributor management, retail execution, team performance and development in assigned specific geography. The Regional Sales Manager is a highly motivated and results-oriented individual responsible for driving revenue growth within a designated region by developing and executing effective sales strategies for the Surly beer portfolio, Ready To Drink Vodka Cocktails and our portfolio of THC beverages. This role requires a self-starter with a proven track record of success in exceeding sales targets and building strong customer relationships. This individual must be a hands-on leader, capable of formulating and executing comprehensive sales plans to achieve market dominance, while also being willing to “roll up their sleeves” and work directly with sales managers to ensure successful implementation.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft office- word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook
  • Ability to successfully pass a background test and motor vehicle report
  • Reliable car and valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years in craft beer sales in either a wholesale or supplier environment
  • Bachelor’s degree, business or marketing concentration is preferred
  • Team management experience, with ability to coach and mentor direct reports

Responsibilities

  • Create the annual Distributor Business Plan for each distributor including volume, distribution, marketing, promotions, sales programs, execution and quality control standards for the On and Off-premise business.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive regional sales plans in alignment with overall company sales objectives, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities within the beer and THC markets.
  • Actively develop and manage relationships with distributor personnel including Executive Leadership, Sales Managers, Operations Management and Sales Reps; effectively train Surly & Distributor reps to sell Surly Beer.
  • Working with the key customers in trade developing relationships, building brand presence and sales in assigned channels and geography by meeting with each distributor to set targets for distribution (on- and off-premise), volume objectives, financial commitments, and merchandising targets.
  • Leading the Key Account Management program by establishing with each distributor specific accounts to gain or expand points of distribution with accounts that are identified as appropriate for the brand.
  • Holding quarterly QBP meetings with each distributor to review performance against goals, discuss marketing programs and plans for ongoing execution.
  • Perform all necessary administrative duties relevant to position (i.e., tracking reports, promotional recaps, expense reports, etc.); reconcile distributor marketing funds monthly with appropriate personnel.
  • Working with, training and motivating distributors on company brands.
  • Utilizing data from in-house systems (VIP, NIQ) as well as employing marketing tools to influence distributor focus.
  • Managing Marketing Managers and / or Sales Associates within the region regarding on-premise and off-premise activity, confirming follow-up and support at the distributor level.
  • Participating in necessary trade events (industry, retail and/or consumer) such as wholesaler conferences, trade shows, events, etc.
  • Monitoring assigned budgets to ensure that spending stays within budget and on strategy.
  • Complying with all Surly policies and procedures, ensuring that all activities are conducted within local, state and federal laws.
  • Ensure alignment of pricing strategies throughout assigned territory.
  • Monitor inventory and shipments to wholesale/retailers while adhering to Surly’s strict quality standards.
  • Provide sales leadership to a growing sales team through hands-on management, including executing strategic performance plans and appraisals with direct reports.
  • Managing and developing team members within the department
  • Performing weekly and quarterly staff check-ins as well as annual performance reviews to review performance agreements and consideration for merit-based increases
  • Clearly defining direction, roles and responsibilities, prioritizing projects and managing resources efficiently.
  • Executing performance agreements for all employees and holding team members accountable to their goals and expectations
  • Reinforce the standards set forth in the Surly Brand Ambassador code of conduct for employees
