About The Position

The Regional Safety Specialist supports Page Trucking’s transportation and workplace safety programs within an assigned region. This position serves as the primary field safety resource for drivers, terminal leaders, and company employees. The Regional Safety Specialist works with drivers, employees and managers to identify hazards, correct unsafe practices, reinforce company safety protocols, and promote a fair and accountable safety culture. This position supports, but does not replace, the responsibility of drivers, employees and operational leaders for safe vehicle operation, equipment condition, employee performance, and regulatory compliance. Regional assignments may change based on business and operational needs.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Five or more years of relevant transportation safety, trucking, driver training, compliance, accident investigation, claims, or related experience preferred.
Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA requirements.
Extensive experience with the following trailer types, strongly preferred; End Dump, Walking Floor, Molten, Rolloff, Flatbed.
General knowledge of roadside inspections, cargo securement, hours of service, accident reporting, and driver safety practices.
Experience coaching drivers or employees.
Experience delivering safety training.
Experience with ride-alongs, driver evaluations, and field observations.
Ability to maintain confidential and time-sensitive records.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Experience using telematics, camera, ELD, or driver-performance information.
Experience supporting serious accident investigations and root-cause reviews.
Familiarity with workers’ compensation, injury reporting, and loss prevention.
Experience conducting terminal or facility safety assessments.
Ability to learn safety, telematics, camera, ELD, claims, training, and document-management systems.
Valid Class A CDL with hazardous materials endorsement and an acceptable driving record.
Ability to travel frequently.
Availability to respond to serious incidents outside normal business hours.
Knowledge of transportation safety and commercial motor vehicle operations.

Responsibilities

Implement and ensure compliance with company safety programs, policies, and procedures throughout the assigned region.
Serve as the primary field safety contact for assigned drivers, terminals, and managers.
Visit terminals, maintenance facilities, customer locations, and other work sites.
Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and operational risks.
Track coaching, training, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.
Report significant incidents, unresolved concerns, and safety trends to the Safety Director.
Support companywide safety programs and special projects.
Support compliance with applicable DOT and FMCSA requirements.
Review roadside inspections, violations, citations, warnings, and out-of-service conditions.
Collect required documents from drivers and managers.
Coordinate follow-up with Operations, Maintenance, Compliance, and terminal leadership.
Verify that corrective actions are completed and the full scope of Operation Zero compliance in assigned region.
Identify regional recurring compliance trends and provide targeted coaching and administer recommended safety awareness and remedial training.
Assist with audits, regulatory reviews, and corrective-action plans.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and audit-ready records.
Escalate significant or unresolved compliance and safety concerns.
Deliver and document assigned safety training.
Coordinate training schedules with terminal leadership and company training resources.
Provide individual and group training on topics such as: Defensive driving, Hours of service, Cargo securement, Equipment operation, Distracted-driving prevention, Backing and maneuvering, Seat-belt use, Speed management, Roadside inspection readiness, Accident and injury reporting, Hazard recognition, Personal protective equipment, Customer and company safety requirements.
Lead or support safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Driver Safety Committee activities.
Track attendance, acknowledgments, test results, and training completion within the assigned region.
Report on overdue or incomplete training.
Use approved company training materials and provide recommendations for improvement.
Review driver safety information, including telematics, camera events, accidents, inspections, citations, hours-of-service concerns, and policy violations.
Conduct approved ride-alongs, field observations, and driver evaluations.
Provide timely, professional, fair, and objective coaching.
Reinforce safe-driving practices and company expectations.
Identify drivers who may need additional training, monitoring, counseling, or management review.
Maintain accurate coaching and observation records.
Track assigned driver interventions and remedial training.
Communicate significant concerns to authorized leaders.
Escalate and coordinate with Safety Director and Operations when production expectations conflict with safe operating requirements.
Avoid unsupported conclusions when information is inaccurate or incomplete.
Respond to vehicle accidents, employee injuries, cargo claims, property damage, environmental events, and near misses.
Provide after-hours assistance for serious incidents when required.
Confirm that required notifications and reports are completed and entered in Origami.
As directed by the Safety Director and Risk Manager, collect and preserve relevant evidence, including photographs, statements, reports, videos, telematics data, vehicle records, and cargo documents.
Coordinate with the Compliance Team for required post-accident testing requirements.
Assist with fact-finding, root-cause reviews, and preventability-review preparation.
Participate in formal investigations when assigned.
Coordinate with Safety, Risk, Claims, Operations, Human Resources, Maintenance, Compliance, insurers, and other authorized parties timely.
Track preventable accidents / incident corrective actions through to completion.
Protect confidential, medical, privileged, and legally sensitive information.
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety visits.
Review work practices, employee behavior, equipment activity, and compliance with company safety protocols.
Observe vehicle movement, backing, loading, unloading, cargo securement, inspections, PPE use, yard operations, and housekeeping.
Document findings objectively in Origami and set audit abatement criteria.
Recommend to the Safety Director and Page Training Center practical training corrective actions needed based on the seriousness of the risk.
Escalate immediately report conditions that could cause serious injury, environmental harm, regulatory exposure, or property damage to the Safety Director.
Follow up until assigned abatement items are corrected.
Assist with timely Origami reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses.
Gather statements, photographs, reports, and other relevant information to provide.
Coordinate required notifications with Risk, Claims, Human Resources, and Operations.
Participate in injury and near-miss reviews.
Identify recurring hazards and recommend preventive measures.
Working with the Safety Director, Risk Manager, and Page Training Center to coordinate and provide injury-prevention training.
Support return-to-work activities within the position’s assigned authority as outlined by the Risk Manager.
Protect confidential medical and employee information.
Monitor regional safety performance and identify recurring trends requiring attention.
Review accidents, injuries, inspections, citations, telematics events, coaching, training completion, and corrective actions.
Prepare regional reports and management updates.
Identify recurring behaviors, equipment concerns, training gaps, and operational risks.
Recommend targeted safety initiatives based on objective information.
Help maintain accurate dashboards, records, and corrective-action tracking.
Present findings during safety and operational meetings.
Help implement approved safety policies and procedures.
Communicate new or revised requirements to affected employees.
Reinforce requirements during visits, coaching, meetings, and training.
Identify policies or procedures that may need clarification.
Recommend changes to the Safety Director or authorized policy owner.
Assist with forms, checklists, training materials, and standard operating procedures.
Confirm that current approved materials are being used.
Obtain required employee acknowledgments.
Coordinate safety activities with Safety, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Human Resources, Maintenance, Claims, Recruiting, Training, and terminal leadership.
Maintain professional relationships with drivers, employees, managers, customers, vendors, law enforcement, and regulators.
Participate in operational meetings and provide safety updates.
Escalate urgent safety concerns promptly.
Help resolve communication gaps between field operations and corporate departments.
Follow up on assigned action items until completed or escalated.
Communicate facts objectively and avoid unauthorized legal, regulatory, claims, employment, or disciplinary decisions.
