About The Position

Safety Management Group is a nationally recognized professional service organization that provides workplace safety consulting, training, staffing, program planning, and implementation. The company is seeking a Regional Safety Advisor specializing in Forestry for the Roanoke, WV area. The key functions of this role are to prioritize safety and client needs, work effectively in a team, be self-managed, and be flexible with change. The Advisor will operate within a utility construction environment. Safety Management Group emphasizes high ethical standards and a commitment to exceeding expectations. The Regional Safety Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety (EHS) support across all forestry-related activities associated with capital construction and maintenance transmission projects within the Virginia and West Virginia footprint.

Requirements

  • A professional safety certification from an industry-recognized safety organization, OR a college degree in a safety-related field and at least two (2) years of demonstrable safety management-related experience OR at least five (5) years of increasing responsibility in professional, technical, safety management, and/or electric utility operations experience
  • Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions
  • Proficient with effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), navigating new computer software and applications
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team setting
  • Ability to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results
  • Able to drive to multiple areas around the state

Responsibilities

  • Contractor safety management program implementation
  • Complete quality safety observations, including documentation of findings with a focus on leading indicators
  • Establish, build, and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders
  • Provide safety leadership for grid enhancement projects
  • Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the owner
  • Work to ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors
  • Represent the utility client in meetings
  • Prepare reports in a clear and concise manner
  • Reinforces safety culture with field crews
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
