About The Position

Generations Family Health Center (GFHC) is a non-profit, regional Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving eastern Connecticut since 1984. We provide comprehensive primary care, behavioral health, oral health, and case management services, primarily to medically underserved populations. We are seeking a Regional Registered Nurse Lead to join our team at our Willimantic and Norwich locations. This role offers a mostly daytime, weekday schedule with no overnights, generous paid time off, and a focus on work-life balance. Our RNs practice meaningful patient care in a supportive, team-based care model, building long-term relationships with patients and families. The Regional RN Lead will practice with a high level of autonomy in a mission-driven environment that values nursing expertise and compassion.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in ambulatory care, primary care, community health, or medical office setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of outpatient clinical workflows, infection prevention and control practices, laboratory and point-of-care testing procedures, vaccine management, and general regulatory/compliance standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and support day-to-day clinical operations across multiple sites.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate clinical initiatives, and support workflow implementation in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Experience with staff onboarding, clinical support, workflow guidance, vaccine inventory coordination, and/or competency assistance preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR), standing orders, and outpatient clinical procedures preferred.
  • Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a senior clinical resource and support leader across assigned GFHC sites.
  • Provides direct patient care and clinical coverage for approximately eighty percent (80%) of scheduled work time.
  • Supports nursing practice standardization, onboarding, competency development, quality initiatives, and workflow improvement for approximately twenty percent (20%) of scheduled work time.
  • Functions as an experienced nursing resource promoting consistency in clinical practice.
  • Supports staff development and assists with the implementation of nursing initiatives.
  • Helps ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Works under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in collaboration with site leadership to strengthen communication, coordination, and continuity of nursing services across multiple locations.
  • Provides direct patient care, triage, clinical support to clinicians, nursing interventions, patient education, care coordination, and assistance with maintaining efficient daily clinic operations.
  • Provides clinical coverage during staffing vacancies, leaves of absence, periods of increased patient volume, and other operational needs.
  • Supports new employee onboarding and preceptorship.
  • Assists with nursing competency validation.
  • Conducts workflow observations.
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with the implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Promotes adherence to evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Serves as a resource for nursing staff across all assigned locations.
  • Supports vaccine program oversight and serves as a designated primary or backup Vaccine Coordinator.
  • Maintains current knowledge of immunization schedules, vaccine storage and handling requirements, and applicable state and federal vaccine program requirements.
  • Supports vaccine inventory and compliance activities.
  • Participates in vaccine program audits and site reviews.
  • Assists with the implementation of state and organizational vaccine initiatives.
