About The Position

Chisel Industries is a San Francisco-based holding company that partners with or invests in leading skilled trades businesses. We are establishing a presence in Utah and seeking a founding leader to build and grow the region from the ground up. This role involves acquiring companies, hiring general managers, establishing operational cadence, and developing Utah into a flagship regional business over the next three to five years. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Utah's trades market and a desire to build a lasting enterprise.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in the skilled trades as an owner/investor, operator, or division leader at a $20M+ trades business.
  • Deep knowledge of Utah's trades market, including contractors, associations, labor pool, and local regulations.
  • Proven track record in hiring, leadership, team building, and performance management.
  • Operator's fluency with P&L, job costing, and unit economics.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Comfort and willingness to embrace and utilize AI and new technologies extensively in operations, hiring, and diligence.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with M&A, partnership structuring, or Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA).
  • Familiarity with field service software such as ServiceTitan, Skimmer, or Jobber.
  • Active ties to industry associations like UACCA, ACCA Utah, or Utah Roofing Contractors Association.
  • MBA or prior experience in a PE-backed operating role.

Responsibilities

  • Source acquisition targets across HVAC, roofing, plumbing, electrical, and adjacent trades in the greater SLC / Wasatch Front market.
  • Build trust with owner-operators and lead negotiations through deal closure.
  • Represent Chisel in Utah at industry events and build relationships within the trades community.
  • Integrate acquired companies onto Chisel’s operating model, including financial reporting, tech stack, HR, and shared services.
  • Recruit and develop General Managers for portfolio companies.
  • Own and drive key operating metrics such as revenue growth, gross margin, customer retention, and technician productivity.
  • Establish and scale the Utah shared services function.
  • Assume full P&L accountability for all Chisel companies in Utah.
  • Develop and execute the expansion strategy across the Wasatch Front (Salt Lake, Provo/Orem, Ogden, and St. George).
  • Manage relationships with Utah banks, attorneys, brokers, and lenders.
  • Contribute to the development of Chisel's regional playbook.
