The Regional Medical Director (RMD) is a senior physician leadership role offering a unique opportunity to shape population health across West Texas. This position is located in El Paso, Texas serving Public Health Region 9/10 which includes 36 counties from the Rio Grande River to the New Mexico border. The RMD blends clinical expertise with executive leadership to advance public health practice and protect communities. As the region’s lead physician, the RMD provides medical direction, serves as a trusted advisor to local and regional partners, and oversees the delivery of high-quality public health and clinical services. This role offers broad professional scope including clinical oversight and public health preparedness while maintaining direct engagement in meaningful medical decision-making. The RMD works closely with agency leadership and with city, county, state, and federal partners to coordinate services, respond to public health incidents, and ensure consistent application of evidence-based practices and regulatory standards. For candidates who hold a current U.S. Medical License (MD or DO) from a state other than Texas, or who are eligible to obtain a Texas Medical License (e.g., medical school graduates, expired license, etc.), a Texas Medical License will be required as a condition of employment. Candidates may begin employment prior to obtaining the Texas license, provided they are able to secure licensure within the six-month probationary period.
