About The Position

This role is for a Regional Marketing and Communications Consultant based in San Francisco, Santa Monica, New York, or Washington DC. The position is not a traditional marketing role; instead, it requires close collaboration with businesses to drive commercial results. The consultant will work with Trade Commissioners, Business Development Managers, and exporters to translate strategy into tangible outcomes. Responsibilities include embedding within industry sector teams to identify opportunities, shape plans, solve problems, and connect with relevant expertise. The role blends aspects of marketing advisory, project management, and relationship management, involving tasks such as developing marketing approaches for events, shaping sector growth plans, creating targeted content, and producing collateral for New Zealand exporters. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is New Zealand's international business development agency, supporting innovative companies in growing internationally. With a global presence in 37 offices across 24 time zones, NZTE assists New Zealand businesses in over 100 countries. In North America, the agency supports Kiwi companies in dynamic markets, operating from offices in New York, Vancouver, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Santa Monica. This role will be the primary Marketing and Communications business partner for two sector teams in North America, involving embedding with teams, leading MarComs delivery (events, trade missions, campaigns), and acting as a liaison between sector teams and the broader Marketing, Communications, and Solutions team. Regional responsibilities may include trade media, social media, and brand presence. Regular travel to regional offices, special events, and trade shows across North America is expected. Success is measured by being a trusted commercial partner, aligning marketing activity with commercial priorities, and ensuring smooth project execution.

Requirements

  • Solid experience in marketing, communications, event marketing, account management, or related customer-facing roles.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build trust across a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial curiosity and judgement.
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to move initiatives from idea to execution while balancing competing priorities.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enjoy being close to the action and thrive under pressure.
  • Must already have the appropriate immigration status to work in the country where you will be based.

Responsibilities

  • Embedding with your sectors’ Trade Commissioners and Business Development Managers to build trusted relationships.
  • Leading MarComs delivery, including events, trade missions, conference booths, campaigns, and integrated marketing initiatives.
  • Being the connector between your sector teams and the rest of the Marketing, Communications and Solutions team which includes research, digital solutions, content and event management specialists.
  • Picking up some region wide marketing and communication responsibilities which may include trade media, social media or brand presence.
  • Regular travel to appointed regional offices, special events and trade shows across North America.
