About The Position

The Regional Manager, Planning & Advice provides leadership, coaching, and direction to the Financial Planner team within an assigned division, with accountability for business development, portfolio and relationship growth, advice quality, regulatory compliance, and disciplined expense management. This role drives a consistent sales and service culture through collaboration across member offers, focusing on acquiring new business and deepening existing relationships. The Regional Manager ensures delivery of holistic, four‑quadrant advice—banking, borrowing, protection, and investing—so every member plan reflects a complete financial picture and improves member outcomes while growing Funds Under Administration, net sales, and contributions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce or a related discipline required
  • Canadian Securities License required
  • Financial Planning Designation required (current and in good standing (PFP, CFP)
  • 6-7 years of experience in the financial industry is required
  • 3+ years in a senior planning & advice or wealth advisory leadership role, including leading licensed advisors and coaching to sales and advice quality outcomes.
  • Expert knowledge of wealth (investment, securities, and personal insurance) products, services, and regulations required
  • Advanced knowledge of legislation and regulations related to wealth management required
  • Strong business development expertise and acute business acumen, with the ability to understand issues and responds appropriately to the diverse requirements of a rapidly growing organization
  • Proven ability to develop and execute on strategic sales and service plans
  • Proven skills in business development and achievement of sales goals and targets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt and work in ambiguity
  • Proficient in computer software programs e.g. Conquest Planning, Microsoft Office, Dynamics 365, Copilot and banking software programs.
  • Strong financial planning skills

  • Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction through coaching and mentoring to drive engagement, retention and performance.
  • Recruits, develops, and evaluates team members while fostering a culture of accountability and ownership.
  • Leads a strong, proactive sales and service culture through motivational leadership and ensures effective deployment of resources within budgeted guidelines.
  • Utilizes the Day in the Life principles to prioritize activities and deliver remarkable, consistent member experiences.
  • Develops and manages the annual business plan for Divisional President approval, ensuring alignment with Tru Cooperative’s strategic direction.
  • Sets and monitors expectations, ensures goals and targets are achieved, and implements solutions to support execution, performance, and profitability.
  • Manages relationships with internal partners and leads the planning & advice operating rhythm, including monthly business reviews, pipeline/forecast cadence, and divisional coaching routines.
  • Influences cross-functional partners (Retail, Product, Marketing, Operations, Risk/Compliance) to remove barriers, improve processes, and accelerate growth.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with high profile members, business, and community groups.
  • May deal directly with members when issues arise, as required.
  • Ensures effective risk management practices to reduce potential losses, manage fraud, and meet corporate objectives.
  • Addresses audit findings and policy or procedure issues by recommending or approving changes or exceptions as required, while ensuring adherence to confidentiality, credit, safety, equipment, and audit/risk management requirements.
  • Establishes and oversees advice practice governance to ensure consistent, compliant, and high-quality financial planning and investment recommendations.
  • Leads periodic file/plan quality reviews; ensures suitability and documentation standards are met; partners with Risk/Compliance to address findings; and resolves escalated member concerns and complaints.
  • Owns divisional Planning & Advice performance outcomes including FUA growth, net sales, revenue and productivity; manages to an approved expense budget; forecasts and monitors results monthly; identifies risks/opportunities and implements corrective actions to deliver sustained contribution.
  • As the divisional Planning & Advice practice leader and primary wealth subject matter expert, supports advisor and branch leadership development through practical coaching, mentoring, and structured learning pathways.
  • Establishes coaching routines and performance standards, champions accreditation by setting clear expectations and milestones for PFP/CFP designations and ensures licensing and continuing‑education requirements are met to sustain a high‑performing, compliant advice culture.
