Regional Immunization Nurse Consultant
About The Position
The Regional Immunization Nurse Consultant provides advanced clinical support to the Immunization Branch by resolving complex immunization issues that require specialized nursing judgment. The position assists the Provider Clinical Services Unit Manager in planning, organizing, and managing clinical activities in alignment with North Carolina Board of Nursing rules and the state’s cooperative agreement with CDC. Working independently, the consultant delivers high‑level clinical guidance to Immunization Branch staff, the Epi Section, and external health care providers. This role functions as a clinician, educator, role model, and supervisor for field nursing staff within the Provider Clinical Services Unit. The position also conducts Vaccines for Children (VFC) site visits and evaluates program needs, nursing policies, and health‑related activities in both public and private health care settings.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina
- Two years of clinical experience in the area of specialization.

Responsibilities
- Conduct VFC site visits to medical provider offices to assess adherence to immunization program requirements and identify clinical needs.
- Evaluate nursing policies, program activities, and service delivery practices within local health departments and private provider settings.
- Provide advanced clinical consultation on complex immunization issues to Immunization Branch staff, the Epi Section, and external health care entities.
- Assist the Provider Clinical Services Unit Manager with planning, organizing, and managing clinical activities according to program guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise field nursing staff by offering clinical oversight, operational guidance, and performance support.
- Develop and implement interventions that address identified immunization needs and improve program effectiveness.
- Serve as a consultant and educator for hospitals, private practices, local health departments, and state agencies on sensitive immunization topics.
- Independently resolve minor clinical issues and escalate complex matters to appropriate branch leadership.
- Support immunization program operations by contributing specialized nursing expertise to clinical policy development and program decision‑making.
