About The Position

Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a self-motivated, experienced civil engineer to work through it’s South Atlantic Field Office in Hanahan, SC to serve North Carolina and Virginia. The position will work remotely but must be located in Eastern North Carolina or potentially Southeastern Virginia. Location is preferably to be in near Washington, NC to be near a future potential office location in the area. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects.

Requirements

  • B.S in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program
  • Registered civil engineer
  • Obtain registration reciprocity in assigned states
  • Demonstrated oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Goal oriented
  • Able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects.
  • Supervise engineering staff and provide oversight on various programs.
  • Assist with budget development, provide training and engineering guidance, and ensure quality control of engineering services and standards.
  • Scoping and proposal development, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and occasional construction management.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with local, state and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners.
  • Prepare proposal scope of work and budgets in coordination with close biological staff.
  • Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program.
  • Complete engineering designs and reports as required.
  • Prepare project plans, technical specifications and cost estimates.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed.
  • Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications and schedules.
  • Act as contracting officer, ensure contract compliance and manage project budgets.
  • Assist with fieldwork as required which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions.
  • Operate ATV, outboard motor and boat when necessary.
