About The Position

This position serves as a Safety-focused business partner, providing strategic consultation and leadership in the development of comprehensive safety management systems. The role involves implementing effective training initiatives, conducting targeted risk analysis, and auditing programs to measure efficacy. It offers proactive leadership to all regional Trane employees, manages environmental health, safety, and security activities, programs, and incident prevention, ensuring compliance with Trane, local, state, provincial, and national requirements. The position aims to establish and promote a strong safety culture and a healthy work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental or Safety Sciences/Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • One or more safety-related professional certification is desired (i.e. CSP, CIH, CHSM).
  • A minimum of 7+ years of practical environmental health and safety management experience.
  • Prefer someone in a service-related business capacity.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, MSHA, DOT, Canada Health & Safety Board as regionally appropriate.
  • Experience in the interpretation of federal, provincial, state, local, environmental and safety standards.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, changing/growing organization.
  • Excellent time management skills and computer experience in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and EHS data management system (i.e. Gensuite).
  • Strong ability to lead, motivate, engage and influence others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal in English.
  • Bi-lingual is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to take innovative approaches to improve processes and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt well to face-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with experience leading the safety management function.
  • Comfortable working with field technicians as well as communicating with leaders at all levels in the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites/remotely as well as a dispersed workforce.
  • Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and perform duties in hot and cold environments.
  • Sites include office settings, construction sites, rooftops, warehouses, manufacturing plants, etc.
  • Ladders to rooftops may be both fixed and portable, with safe working weight limits.
  • Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, and safety boots to safely perform job duties.
  • Travel beyond jobsites may be required in support of safety campaigns, training programs/ conferences, customer events, safety day events, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as an active member of the SBU EHS Leadership Team and the TK Services Operational Team, supporting regional operations success.
  • Provide support for other Company teams as needed and directed, including SBU, North America, and Enterprise EHS support.
  • Proactively lead and coordinate environmental health, safety, and security process efforts for the region, including TK Services locations and remote TK Services teams.
  • Develop, implement, and measure the success of safety programs, strategies, policies, training, and procedures in alignment with Corporate and Business Unit expectations.
  • Ensure accountability and interactions between stakeholders and leadership.
  • Use established EHS data processes to lead incident and illness management and report incidents, injuries, illnesses, environmental metrics, risk assessments, EHS action items, and other pertinent information.
  • Utilize company EHS platform, Benchmark|Gensuite, to assign and monitor inspections, concern and near miss reports, Action Tracking System items, and generate reports.
  • Analyze data to lead and coordinate safety efforts for continual improvement.
  • Visit job sites, including dispersed workforces and fixed TK Service centers, regularly to ensure effective implementation of EHS processes and programs.
  • Identify existing or potential risks and hazards and ensure recommended corrective or preventative measures are completed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation program administration, including working with all parties to manage and support transitional duty and return-to-work programs.
  • Drive incident and near miss reporting.
  • Perform root cause analysis of incidents and injuries to determine specific actions needed to prevent reoccurrence, involving operations subject matter experts, business leadership, and business and enterprise EHS.
  • Facilitate EHS training and orientation as needed.
  • Identify EHS-related training requirements for associates and support processes to ensure training effectiveness and compliance.
  • Ensure all EHS-related records are accurately maintained/organized and in compliance with Trane, local, state, provincial, and national requirements or any other regulatory agency rules and regulations.
  • Ensure contractors and subcontractors have implemented an effective safety process by conducting pre-qualifications and by visiting/auditing job sites regularly.
  • Participate on business teams to assist in the development of safety policies and procedures, projects, campaigns, committees, and corporate compliance audits.
  • Provide information, metrics, and programs to customers for customer-required contractor qualifications.
  • Coach/mentor all employees, including leadership, on safe work practices, hazard identification, and risk management.
  • Direct risk assessments and recommend control measures for all potential areas of concern.
  • Prepare technical EHS regulatory reporting.
  • Lead the process of reviewing and approving safety data sheets and the new chemical request process.
  • Organize and lead teams/committees to identify and implement safety improvements, waste reductions, and resource conservation.
  • Oversee and confirm the effectiveness of site emergency response plans/teams to ensure appropriate training in emergency response, spill response, disaster preparedness, and crisis management.
  • Ensure drills and equipment are in a ready state and effective communication of responsibilities to personnel.
  • Guide, counsel, advise, and communicate with all levels of leadership on EHS and wellness matters within the region.
  • Up to 50% travel in the Region required, with approximately 25% overnight stays. Travel is required to other service site locations and customer work sites. Position provides fleet vehicle for travel.
