About The Position

At IDEA, we believe excellent school leaders are the key to ensuring scholars receive a world-class education. Driven by this belief, our Directors of Leader Development (DLDs) develop leaders within each IDEA region to ensure every school is led by a transformational leadership team. To achieve this mission, DLDs partner with principal supervisors, mentor principals, and other stakeholders to coach a portfolio of school leaders, which may include Cadre of Aspiring Principal (CAP) participants, Principals-in-Residence (PIRs), new principals, and/or returning principals. As a result of the work, DLDs ensure that their region achieves ambitious results for scholars in the current school year while simultaneously building a strong bench of leaders who are ready for future leadership roles (especially principalship) when openings arise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 4+ years teacher experience and 3+ years of school leader experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Principal experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Relay Graduate School of Education frameworks and protocols (Observation Feedback, Weekly Data Meetings, Action Steps, See It Name It Do, etc.) strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and develop a portfolio of aspiring principals to strengthen the region’s internal leadership bench.
  • Coach a portfolio of priority campus leaders to ensure their campuses meet driving goals.
  • Lead regional trainings for campus leaders and follow up to ensure training is implemented effectively.
  • Engage in Principal Succession Planning with principal supervisors and Executive Directors.
  • Partner closely with the managers of leaders in their coaching portfolio to ensure these leaders receive aligned coaching from both their manager and the DLD.
  • Track, analyze, and respond strategically to region-wide data to improve outcomes for both leader development and campus goal attainment.
  • Lead the annual Teacher Career Pathway placement process for the region.
  • Manage and coach team of regional content and leadership coaches to outcomes serving adult learning, coaching, and feedback mechanisms resulting in increased student achievement metrics.
  • Serve as interim principal when there is a principal vacancy.
  • Design and facilitate professional development sessions tailored to address region-specific needs.
  • Serve as the regional lead for teacher training, including both new teacher training in the summer, annual summer training for all teachers, and ongoing teacher training throughout the year.
  • Join interviews for campus leader roles to build the capacity of hiring managers to make effective hiring decisions.
  • Build the capacity of managers to effectively onboard new campus leaders.
  • Organize and lead school reviews for priority schools.
  • Lead the selection process for regional Teacher of the Year and Co-teacher of the Year.
