About The Position

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Region 1 which includes the following counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gulf, Liberty, Franklin, Gadsden, Leon, Wakulla, and Jefferson. This position requires up to 90% travel on a regular basis as part of routine duties. A state vehicle and equipment are provided.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel up to 90% of the time on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to maintain working order and preventative maintenance schedule of state issued equipment and vehicles.
  • Must have five (5) years of professional work experience in communications, corrections, or a public relations role.
  • Postsecondary education may substitute for up to four (4) years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as one of the Department’s four regional communications coordinators by supporting the functions and mission of the Office of Communications at the regional level.
  • Maintain and utilize provided equipment to obtain high-quality photos and videos to draft social media posts, internal content, weekly newsletter submissions, and promotional or recruitment content.
  • Conduct recorded interviews with staff, inmates, and volunteers for Agency news publications.
  • Create social media content (photos, videos, graphics) for FDC Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other emerging platforms.
  • Design digital graphics in tools such as Canva, including flyers, newsletters, and other digital communications materials.
  • Proactively plan, coordinate, and facilitate media visits inside correctional institutions and probation offices within the assigned region for the purpose of garnering positive press coverage.
  • Process, schedule, and facilitate media requests for inmate interviews.
  • Work with correctional institutions, probation offices, and program offices within the assigned region to gather information and formulate draft responses for the media, as assigned.
  • Respond to correctional institutions or probation offices to coordinate media presence following an emergency or unexpected event.
  • Perform secondary duties to support regional communications-related functions such as compiling reports, writing talking points or statements, and coordinating public record requests.
