About The Position

The Region Communications Manager develops and executes communications strategies that support regional business objectives and strengthen Rumpke’s position as a leading total waste management solutions provider. This position partners with the Area Communications Manager and Region leadership to identify communications needs and implement effective strategies within established budgets and timelines. The Region Communications Manager leads the Region communications team, including hiring, development, performance management, and oversight of Communications Coordinators and Assistants.

Requirements

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Creative, innovative, and proactive approach to developing effective communications strategies and solutions
  • Ability to identify and implement ideas, programs, and processes that improve communication effectiveness and efficiency
  • Professional presence and strong relationship-building skills when working with internal and external audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Skilled in Associated Press Style
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in public relations or communications, and a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or related field
  • Experience with communications planning, execution and evaluation required
  • 1 year of previous management/leadership experience required
  • Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls
  • Legally eligible to be employed in the United States
  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language

Nice To Haves

  • Political experience and/or environmental industry experience preferred
  • Accreditation in public relations a plus
  • Media relations/crisis communications training

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, train, develop, and manage the performance of communications team members within the assigned Region
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate regional communications strategies, and manage the associated budget
  • Develop and deliver key messages that advance regional business objectives while maintaining consistent Rumpke branding
  • Manage proactive media relations for the region, including news releases, media outreach, and story development
  • Monitor and develop social media strategies and communications opportunities impacting the Region
  • Lead communications efforts for regional business development initiatives, including expansions, acquisitions, and other significant projects
  • Develop and oversee communications for community events and educational programs, including facility tours and presentations for neighbors, elected officials, customers, and the general public
  • Ensure advertising, public relations, communications materials, and related activities align with Rumpke standards and organizational objectives and remain within approved budgets
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, accountability, and respect across the communications team and Region
  • Provide regular project updates, performance reports, and strategic communications insights to Area Communications Manager and Region leadership
  • Ensure all communications activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
