About The Position

LaneStaffing is seeking dependable and hardworking Refuse Collectors to support solid waste collection operations for the City of Laredo. The Refuse Collector is responsible for collecting residential garbage, emptying refuse containers into collection vehicles, maintaining cleanliness around collection areas, and assisting with the safe and proper disposal of collected waste. This is a physically demanding, outdoor position that requires the ability to perform repetitive and strenuous work while following established safety procedures.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
Applicants holding an out-of-state driver's license must obtain a Texas Driver License within six months of employment.
Must maintain an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
Basic machinery and equipment operation and maintenance knowledge.
Workplace and equipment safety practices knowledge.
Basic tractor operation knowledge.
Proper refuse collection and disposal procedures knowledge.
Ability to perform strenuous, repetitive, and routine physical work.
Ability to lift and handle medium-weight objects as required by the position.
Ability to work effectively in an outdoor and physically demanding environment.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, City personnel, and the public.
Ability to maintain good organizational and work habits.
Ability to maintain a positive and professional image while representing the City of Laredo.
Ability to comply with all applicable City of Laredo policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Ability to maintain the health and physical condition necessary to perform the full duties of the position.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, and verbally in Spanish.

Responsibilities

Collect residential garbage along assigned routes.
Empty refuse containers into the compactor of a garbage truck.
Operate hydraulic levers and related equipment located on the collection vehicle.
Inspect carts and containers for dirt, iron, wood, rocks, or other materials that could damage collection equipment.
Check sidewalks, curbs, and collection areas to ensure trash and debris have been removed.
Pick up loose trash and assist with street maintenance activities as required.
Follow established safety procedures when working around collection vehicles, machinery, equipment, traffic, and the public.
Assist with the proper handling and disposal of collected waste.
Maintain effective and professional communication with supervisors, coworkers, City staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
Follow directions and complete assigned routes and tasks efficiently.
Operate or assist with machinery, equipment, and tractors as assigned and authorized.
Drive a City vehicle for authorized City business as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
