About The Position

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining refrigeration equipment as required throughout the facility and other corporate facilities. The technician must take extra precautions when working in patient care areas and specifically keep tools out of the reach of children. The role requires basic mechanical knowledge and competence in the use of hand tools, meters, measuring devices, and gauges. Ability to work from blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals is helpful. The technician must be able to explain conditions and situations accurately while troubleshooting and function with safety, moral, and efficiency of the department in mind. The role requires the ability to work all shifts and hours as scheduled and comply with all corporate and facility policies and dress code. Understanding written and verbal communications is essential, along with good written and oral communication skills. The position involves working independently with minimal supervision and requires knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances. Depending on facility size, additional duties may include installation and maintenance of mechanical and stationary systems, including boiler operations, to ensure a safe and efficient environment; maintaining campus grounds and performing other outside maintenance duties; and performing general duties such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and bed repair and maintenance. May require on-call duties as needed or as directed by the department.

Requirements

  • Must possess basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Show competence in the use of hand tools, meters, measuring devices and gauges.
  • Ability to work all shifts and hours as scheduled.
  • Must understand written and verbal communications.
  • Good written and oral communications skills required.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of five years experience in field of refrigeration.
  • Have a mechanical background resulting from formal training or through previous employment.
  • Must become familiar with facility systems to be qualified for call or weekend duty within a 60 day period from hire.
  • Must have universal refrigeration certificate or obtain within six months.
  • Must have or obtain Special Boiler Operator License, within 60 days.
  • Work on obtaining first class C license within one year.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to work from blueprints, schematics and technical manuals helpful.
  • Associate’s degree in refrigeration, preferred.
  • Prefer basic understanding and knowledge of: HVAC controls--pneumatic and electronic, pool equipment, ice machines.
  • Power limited tech license, preferred.
