About The Position

This is a hands-on, non-production operation role responsible for maintaining USDA, HACCP, GMFP, and Company standards. Under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance and Refrigeration Manager, this role involves training and coaching other technicians, performing preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, rebuilds, and projects on all plant refrigeration, utility, and facility equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The technician will respond to calls professionally, safely, and in a timely manner, prioritizing down equipment. Responsibilities include tracking parts usage, ordering replacements within budget, managing contracted projects, assisting Refrigeration Specialists, boiler operation and maintenance, and participating in Process Safety Management (PSM).

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in the service of industrial ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems.
  • Industrial refrigeration experience preferred; related industrial mechanical experience may be considered.
  • 5 years of industrial boiler operation/maintenance preferred; related industrial mechanical experience may be considered.
  • Experience with set-up and maintenance of a PSM program.
  • Electrical troubleshooting with PLC and VFD experience.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment: Protective Eye Wear, ear plugs, hard hat, hair net, protective coat (clothing protector), and impervious boots.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, rebuilds, and projects on all plant refrigeration, utility, and facility equipment.
  • Train and coach other technicians, setting an example.
  • Respond to calls in a professional, safe, and timely manner, prioritizing down equipment.
  • Track parts usage and order replacement parts within budget.
  • Manage contracted projects from start to finish.
  • Assist Refrigeration Specialists as required.
  • Operate and maintain boilers.
  • Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Observe and test system operation using gauges and instruments.
  • Test lines, insulation, components, and connections for leaks.
  • Keep records of repairs and replacements made and causes of malfunctions.
  • Adjust valves according to specifications and charge system with proper type of refrigerant.
  • Install wiring to connect components to an electric power source.
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize work.
  • Schedule work with customers and initiate work orders, purchase requisitions, and orders from stock.
  • Service, repair, adjust, and test machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment.
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the job.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Communicate with supervisors, peers, or contractors via telephone, written form, email, or in person.
  • Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine compliance with standards.
  • Identify objects, actions, and events by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic/magnetic form.
  • Translate or explain what information means and how it can be used.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
