About The Position

This role requires a thorough understanding of the refrigeration process, with a focus on industrial refrigeration and ammonia refrigeration operations and maintenance. The specialist will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the refrigeration system, operating various controls, and troubleshooting minor electrical and controls issues. The position also involves participation in HAZMAT training and HAZWOPR. The work environment can be demanding, with fluctuating temperatures, loud noise levels, and the need for specific personal protective equipment, including respirators.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of refrigeration process.
  • Experience in industrial refrigeration and ammonia refrigeration operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management requirements for operating an ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Experience with blast freezers.
  • Experience with 2 stage systems, swing compressors, high and low stage compressors, booster compressors, and associated systems.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
  • Works well independently and with others.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and must maintain the ability to wear a respirator.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • GCAP Operator 1 Certificate or similar from recognized Ammonia Refrigeration Training source.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator routinely and as part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to the refrigeration system, including oil draining, oil changes, safety checks, starting/stopping compressors, starting/setting/stopping/draining evaporators, and maintenance/repair to evaporative condensers.
  • Operate remote, central, and local controls.
  • Troubleshoot minor electrical and controls issues.
  • Participate in HAZMAT training and HAZWOPR.
  • Work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Wear a respirator routinely and maintain the ability to do so.
