About The Position

This role requires a Refrigeration Specialist with a thorough understanding of refrigeration processes, specifically in industrial refrigeration and ammonia refrigeration operations and maintenance. The specialist will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the refrigeration system, operating controls, troubleshooting electrical and controls issues, and participating in HAZMAT training and HAZWOPR. The work environment can be demanding, involving prolonged standing, physical exertion, and the use of sharp objects, with loud noise levels requiring hearing protection and other PPE. Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of refrigeration process with experience in industrial refrigeration and ammonia refrigeration operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management requirements for operating an ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Experience with blast freezers.
  • Experience with 2 stage systems, swing compressors, high and low stage compressors, booster compressors, and associated systems.
  • Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
  • Works well independently and with others.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and maintain the ability to wear a respirator.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator routinely and as part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to the refrigeration system, including oil draining, oil changes, safety checks, starting/stopping compressors, starting/setting/stopping/draining evaporators, and maintenance/repair of evaporative condensers.
  • Operate remote, central, and local controls.
  • Troubleshoot minor electrical and controls issues.
  • Participate in HAZMAT training and HAZWOPR.
  • Perform duties utilizing sharp objects such as knives, hooks, steel, and saws.
  • Wear hearing protection at all times.
  • Wear additional PPE as required, such as safety glasses, mesh gloves/aprons, frocks, steel-toed boots, hard hats, face shields, surgical masks, and fall protection.
