About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system, HCFC systems, hot water, air compressors, waste treatment operations, and their safe and efficient operation. The role requires understanding and working within the rules and standards of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP). The specialist will work within a total team environment and must be able to effectively deal with team members of the management team, operations personnel, and contractors. A foundational knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of mechanical electrical refrigeration and other systems under the areas of assigned responsibilities is necessary. The role involves participating in training and skill development in all areas of responsibility and requires self-motivation. The specialist must be able to pass a HAZ-Mat physical and pass the training to be certified as an Emergency Responder Technician Level and participate on the Emergency Response Team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of industrial ammonia refrigeration and equipment room experience in a food plant preferred.
  • Experience with A/C and refrigeration system operations and maintenance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industrial maintenance, electrical testing tools, and basic hand/power tools.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment and system P IDs.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to learn and use Tyson’s SAP-PM (Plant Maintenance) system.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Accountable, reliable, and team-oriented.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and in various areas as needed.
  • Able to report to work on time and follow the assigned schedule.
  • Able to work at elevated levels and climb stairs frequently.
  • Comfortable working in varying temperatures: hot (80–90°F) to cold (20–40°F), with wet/slippery conditions.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 60 lbs at different heights.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching in all directions.
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, ear protection, hairnet/beard guard, and boots.
  • Must reside in the United States to be considered.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Must not have 4 or more attendance points for locations on an 8 point policy (on application date).
  • No written warning in the past six (6) months.
  • No suspension on record for the last 12 months.

Nice To Haves

  • RETA or IIAR ammonia refrigeration training preferred.
  • Experience with A/C and refrigeration system operations and maintenance is a plus.
