About The Position

This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system, HCFC systems, hot water, air compressors, and waste treatment operations, ensuring their safe and efficient functioning. The role requires understanding and adherence to OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) rules and standards. The specialist will work within a team environment, collaborating effectively with team members, management, operations personnel, and contractors. A foundational knowledge in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems within the assigned areas of responsibility is essential. The candidate must be willing to participate in training and skill development and be self-motivated.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
3 plus years of Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration and equipment room experience in a food plant preferred.
Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment and basic hand and power tools.
Must be able to read and understand Equipment and System P&IDs.
Must be able to pass a HAZ-Mat physical and pass the training to be certified as an Emergency Responder Technician Level.
Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
Possess a high level of written and verbal communication skills.
Possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization.
Willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

Formal training from an Air-conditioning Refrigeration Technical School is a plus.
RETA and IIAR Ammonia Refrigeration training is preferred.
Experience in the Air Conditioning Refrigeration industry a plus.
Industrial maintenance experience a plus.
Extensive knowledge of Industrial Safety procedures is preferred.
RETA I Certification and Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification preferred.
Knowledge of Industrial Maintenance including hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, Motor Controls, and shop equipment operation desired.
Experience with Air Conditioning Refrigeration systems operation and maintenance a plus.

Responsibilities

Operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system, HCFC systems, hot water, air compressors, and waste treatment operations.
Ensuring safe and efficient operations of assigned systems.
Understanding and working within the rules and standards of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP).
Troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems.
Participating in training and skill development.
Reading and understanding Equipment and System P&IDs.
Passing a HAZ-Mat physical and training to be certified as an Emergency Responder Technician Level.
Participating on the Emergency Response Team.
