Requirements

Knowledge of methods, practices and theory of heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
Knowledge of Freon installation, recovery, recycle and recharge in HVAC systems.
Knowledge of diagnosing heating, cooling and ventilation malfunctions.
Knowledge of safety practices pertaining to the maintenance work environment.
Knowledge of use of multi-meters to troubleshoot circuits, relays, continuity, logic controls, gas safety valves and motor controls, 24V to 480V.
Knowledge of single phase and three phase systems.
Knowledge of types and uses of various refrigerants.
Knowledge of safe pressure levels.
Knowledge of safe refrigerator and freezer temperatures and HVAC codes.
Knowledge of national and local building codes and common safety practices.
Knowledge of common and specialized meters, tools and equipment related to HVAC.
Strong electrical and problem-solving skills.
Written and verbal communication skills.
Skill in inspecting, servicing, repairing, and installing a wide variety of cooling/refrigeration equipment including large scale commercial systems by using various test devices and apply logic gained through experience to determine problem areas.
Skill in applying and understanding national and local building codes and common safety practices in the trade.
Skill in estimating, costing and ordering supplies, materials and equipment.
Skill in working as part of a team.
Ability to learn basic internal computerized systems and maintain electronic records keeping.
Ability to multi-task a variety of assigned tasks.
Ability to practice safety and security procedures.
Ability to understand policies and procedures established for the work systems.
Ability to understand statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedure applicable to maintenance of a physical plant.
Ability to identify, assess and resolve malfunctions related to heating, cooling, ventilation.
Ability to read blue prints, sketches and schematics.
Ability to learn agency policies and procedures.
Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
Ability to work in a correctional facility.
Ability to drive on state business.
Possess a Environmental Protection Agency (EPS) 608 in Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 OR Universal certification.
Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license.
Complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks.
Maintain acceptable driving records.
Complete all driver training.
Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance if operating a personally owned vehicle on state business.
Pass a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening, physical examination and pre-employment screenings.
Current State of Arizona employees must have acceptable performance history (no letter of suspension or involuntary demotion within one year preceding closing date) and an overall rating of “meets expectations” or higher on the most recent employee performance evaluation.
Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

Repairs and maintenance of all HVAC equipment including the repair, removal, replacement and installation of chiller units, ice machines, A/C units walk in freezers, compressors, reversing valves, dryer filters, thermostats, evaporative coils, blowers, fans belts and pulleys and changing out air filters on a quarterly basis.
Inspect and evaluate maintenance, repairs and construction projects.
Troubleshooting different types of HVAC and the components related equipment.
Complete daily work orders.
Order supplies or tools as needed.
Conduct periodic standard Inspections and preventative maintenance on facility Structures, tools and equipment.
Review and apply preventative maintenance programs for heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
Develop and/or modify new procedures for our preventative maintenance programs.
Diagnose problems and malfunctions in a variety of cooling, heating, ventilation controls devices and systems.
Performing other duties appropriate to the assignment.
