The Aviation Department, which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Refrigeration Mechanic. The Aviation HVAC Technician (Refrigeration Mechanic) must have the ability to perform skilled work in mechanical refrigeration in the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration equipment, air conditioning systems, and centrifugal chillers. Work involves the servicing of air conditioning systems and units, refrigerators, water cooling systems, and related equipment utilized in a wide variety of county facilities and buildings, including Pre-Conditioned Air (PC-Air) Systems. Work includes determining work methods and procedures and frequent participation in refrigeration assignments, as well as responsibility for the quality of work produced. Employees receive assignments in oral or written form, frequently accompanied by sketches, diagrams, and blueprints. Work is reviewed by a technical and administrative supervisor for conformance with instructions and for adherence to established codes and regulations. Performs related work as required. This role performs skilled work in mechanical refrigeration in the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration equipment, air conditioning systems, and centrifugal chillers. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
