About The Position

Sunoco LP is a leading energy infrastructure and fuel distribution master limited partnership. The Refinery Terminal Scheduler proactively supports the execution of marine, rail, and truck movements into and out of the Sunoco Burnaby Refinery. These logistics activities support both internal refinery requirements and the ability to execute external customer commitments. The role is responsible for asset scheduling and supporting the operations of the refinery. This includes scheduling refinery terminal rail, marine and truck arrivals and departures, in transit optimization, inventory alignment, and delivery execution, while remaining flexible and responsive to changing supply chain and operational constraints. Strong communication, coordination, and problem solving skills are critical in supporting the collaborative and time sensitive nature of refinery logistics, helping to protect operational reliability and margin retention. The Refinery Terminal Scheduler coordinates with carriers, terminals, customs, inspectors, railways, trucking companies, and internal refinery, supply and commercial teams, and escalates major disruptions or risks to leadership as required.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary education or equivalent experience in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in refinery, energy, chemical, or bulk logistics scheduling, operations, or commercial roles.
  • Experience managing or coordinating marine, rail, and/or truck logistics in an operationally intensive environment.
  • Strong understanding of refinery operations, inventory management, and supply chain execution.
  • Highly detail oriented with strong organizational and multi‑tasking capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly integrate operational and commercial information.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to incorporate multiple inputs into time‑critical decisions.
  • Solid business and financial acumen.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word); experience with scheduling or ERP systems is an asset.
  • Willingness to provide after‑hours or weekend support as operationally required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute daily scheduling and coordination of marine vessels, railcars, and trucks to support refinery feedstock receipts, product shipments, blending activities, and inventory targets.
  • Coordinate dock activity including vessel arrivals, ponding, gauging, sampling, loading, and offloading, ensuring safe and efficient utilization of marine infrastructure.
  • Manage refinery rail rack and truck rack activities, including railcar spotting, switch coordination, and truck nominations in line with refinery production and storage constraints.
  • Maintain and publish rolling daily, 7‑day, and monthly logistics plans, adjusting schedules for volume, specification, or operational changes.
  • Monitor refinery production, tank, bullet, and offsite inventories across all relevant products.
  • Update inventory and scheduling tools daily to ensure accurate system reconciliation for inbound and outbound movements.
  • Proactively identify inventory risks (long/short positions, congestion, outages) and coordinate mitigation plans with Supply, Trading, Blending, and Operations.
  • Support specialty product logistics including LPGs, renewable feedstocks, biofuels, intermediates, and other refinery‑specific portfolios.
  • Determine railcar and truck requirements based on forecasted and actual demand.
  • Coordinate railcar nominations and schedules with railway service providers and internal counterparts.
  • Manage railcar and truck exceptions including bad‑order equipment, off‑spec product movements, and outage‑related constraints.
  • Support rail rack management activities, including ordering loaded and empty cars, switch lists, and reconciliation of movements.
  • Coordinate truck driver orientation requirements and ensure compliance with site access and safety processes.
  • Coordinate marine scheduling activities including nominations, schedule updates, and confirmations with marine service providers.
  • Publish required marine documentation such as certificates of analysis, shipment notices, and voyage documentation.
  • Support vessel vetting processes to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Assist with import/export documentation and coordination with customs and inspection agencies.
  • Act as a central coordination point between Refinery Operations, Blending, Supply & Trading, ERM schedulers, and third‑party service providers.
  • Participate in daily and weekly refinery meetings including morning operations meetings, supply huddles, and logistics planning calls.
  • Communicate schedule changes, risks, and constraints clearly and proactively to affected stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and timely updates within scheduling, inventory, and enterprise systems.
  • Support logistics‑related invoice review and validation, including demurrage and accessorial charges.
  • Contribute to KPI tracking, performance analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal, process, and operational safety in all logistics activities.
  • Ensure all scheduling and execution activities comply with regulatory, contractual, and Sunoco standards.
  • Escalate logistics disruptions, safety concerns, or compliance issues promptly and support resolution efforts.
