About The Position

The Referral Specialist schedules patient and provider referrals and coordinates pre-authorization and pre-certification for tests and procedures. The role also schedules other tests with facilities at the request of providers or staff, communicates with patients, clinics, and hospitals, and reviews clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies. The Specialist performs all work in accordance with the practice’s mission, vision, and values.

Laredo Physicians Group (LPG) provides primary care and specialty services and is affiliated with Doctors Hospital of Laredo. LPG is part of Independence Physician Management, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services (UHS).

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Maintain CPR certification.
• At least two years of clinical experience.
• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, and office procedures and terminology.
• Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
• Knowledge of customer service principles and processes, including assessing customer needs, meeting service quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.
• EMR experience.

Responsibilities

• Schedule referrals for patients and providers.
• Pre-authorize and pre-certify tests and procedures.
• Schedule tests with facilities at the request of providers or staff.
• Communicate directly with patients, clinics, referred-to clinics, and hospitals.
• Review clinical data and report medical necessity to insurance companies.
