The Referral Specialist Pulmonary is responsible for obtaining insurance authorization, coordinating patient referrals to specialists, and maintaining accurate data entry of all referrals. This role ensures that all pertinent documentation is provided and that appropriate clinical information is shared with specialists according to referral guidelines. The specialist will also communicate appointment information to patients and document all stages of the referral process. The position requires adaptability, adherence to corporate communications, punctuality, and a willingness to assist other staff members. It also involves understanding and adhering to departmental policies, completing required training, and maintaining a professional code of conduct. The role emphasizes a positive attitude, supportive behavior towards patients and colleagues, and strict adherence to HIPAA and OSHA regulations, as well as St. Joseph’s Physicians employee handbook policies. The Referral Specialist is a part of the practice care team, participating in daily huddles and team meetings to improve communication, patient experience, and care delivery. They will also participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure job functions align with office policies and patient-centered medical home standards. Other duties as required or requested will also be performed.
