This role is responsible for managing department referrals, serving as a liaison, appointment coordinator, and patient advocate. The position involves conducting data analyses to track patient compliance, monitoring work queues, and communicating with departments to reconcile discrepancies. It also includes requesting insurance authorization, documenting communications, performing needs assessments, and potentially complex appointment scheduling. The role provides patients with appointment and provider information and educational materials. It ensures ancillary testing and other specialty referrals are executed and results are received and acted upon. The position prepares and provides complex details to insurance carriers for prior authorizations and coordinates peer-to-peer reviews. It requires anticipating insurer questions, applying knowledge of previous authorization requests, denials, and approvals, and collaborating with providers to draft letters of medical necessity. The role manages orders for patients seen in ED/Urgent Care, demonstrates expert medical knowledge, and processes outgoing referrals. It ensures Meaningful Use requirements are met and that the Summary of Care is transferred electronically or via facsimile/mail. The position also processes incoming referrals not generated within the UR system, completes referral entry, coordinates ancillary testing, and obtains outside records. Other duties as assigned.
