About The Position

This is a civilian position supporting the Military community. The Referral Management Clerk reviews referrals for administrative completeness and researches covered benefits prior to processing. They determine patient eligibility for services and arrange and schedule medical appointments for referred care. The role involves providing general instructions to patients and MTF personnel regarding referral procedures, ensuring referral results are returned to the referring provider and medical record within required timelines, and assisting with follow-up as necessary. The clerk utilizes a referral tracking data collection tool, calculates metrics, and compiles monthly reports. Responsibilities also include greeting patients/visitors, answering the main office phone line, directing calls, and handling inquiries independently or taking messages. Obtaining updates and filing medical records is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in a medical office setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an Administrative Assistant program is preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience providing administrative support in a medical facility supporting multiple practitioners.
  • Experience should include handling multiple phone lines, a working knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation requirements, standard patient scheduling practices, and creating administrative correspondence and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews referral for administrative completeness and research covered benefits prior to processing.

  • Utilizes the referral tracking data collection tool.
  • Calculates metrics and compiles monthly reports.
  • Greets patients/visitors at a front desk, referral center or office setting.
  • Answers main office phone line(s).
  • Directs telephone calls to appropriate section for assistance, handles independently or takes messages as required.
  • Obtain updates and files medical records as needed.
