About The Position

Help patients access specialty care by coordinating referrals, maintaining accurate documentation, and keeping referral actions moving within required timelines. At International SOS Government Medical Services, you'll support healthcare programs that improve patient care and operational readiness across the U.S. and internationally. Founded in 1984, International SOS operates in more than 90 countries, delivering healthcare, medical assistance, emergency response, and workforce support services worldwide. As a Referral Management Clerk, you'll provide administrative support within a military healthcare environment, helping patients navigate specialty-care referrals. You'll review and process referrals, verify eligibility and covered benefits, schedule referred-care appointments, maintain documentation, and track referral activity while assisting patients, providers, and healthcare personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • At least six months of experience in a medical office setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an Administrative Assistant program.
  • At least six months of administrative support experience in a medical facility supporting multiple practitioners, including experience handling multiple telephone lines and working with medical terminology, medical-documentation requirements, standard patient-scheduling practices, and administrative correspondence and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Review referrals for administrative completeness and research covered benefits before processing.
  • Verify patient eligibility and arrange and schedule medical appointments for referred care.
  • Provide patients and healthcare personnel with general referral instructions and help ensure patients have the documentation required for referred services.
  • Track referral activity, conduct written or verbal follow-up, and help ensure results are returned to the referring provider and added to the medical record within required timelines.
  • Greet patients and visitors, answer office telephone lines, respond to inquiries, route calls, and take accurate messages.
  • Obtain, update, and file medical records as needed to support referral processing.
  • Maintain referral-tracking information, calculate performance metrics, and compile monthly reports.
