About The Position

The Referral Intake Specialist role is responsible for maximizing the organ referral and evaluation process in collaboration with the Referral Optimization Charge (ROC), Advisor on Call (AOC), Organ Recovery Coordinator (ORC), Organ Donation Coordinator (ODC), Donor Legacy Advocate (DLA), hospital staff, physicians, and medical director as needed. Responsible for the initial intake and screening of heart beating ventilated (HBV) referrals, assessing organ donor suitability, and enhancing the donation process. Responsible for maintaining donor records, electronic medical record entry, and communication in conjunction with Donor Legacy Services. For potential organ donors, the RIS is occasionally responsible for facilitating family conversation regarding donation, in collaboration with the ORC and DLA staff if available. This includes collaborating with hospital staff to determine appropriate timing for family counseling and conversation. Assists in the eye and tissue referral process as related to heart beating ventilated donors. Interacts with hospital staff members in a professional manner to obtain thorough and accurate medical information regarding the potential donor.

Requirements

  • 1 year healthcare/medical terminology experience

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience as an EMT-P, LPN, RN, RT, medical scribe, or previous OPO experience
  • EMT-P, LPN, RN or RT license
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree or relevant medical certification
