Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required

Nice To Haves

  • bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical office, referral coordination or patient access role is preferred
  • Proven track record of working well on teams and delivering excellence

Responsibilities

  • Triage inbound referrals from community providers to determine priority and appropriate scheduling guidelines.
  • Accurately input referral details, including patient demographics, referral reason, referring provider information, and insurance information.
  • Coordinate outbound referrals to other specialties in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with the patient and receiving offices, assist with scheduling and follow up on referrals within a designated timeframe.
  • Manage the referring provider phone line to ensure that providers have access to our team for questions, provide referral updates and assist with scheduling requests.
  • Provide referring provider support which may include referral related mailings, provider office visits and special events.
  • Maintain knowledge of insurance requirements for referrals and authorizations across all accepted insurance plans.
  • Work directly with insurance providers to get approval for continued care or outside specialty care.
  • Administrative tasks including medical record requests, managing referral documentation for tracking and other forms for patients.
