About The Position

Adventist Health Sonora is a healthcare provider serving Tuolumne and Calaveras counties and surrounding areas, with a 72-bed hospital, 30 medical offices, comprehensive cancer care, and other services. The Referral Associate coordinates and completes referrals within Hospital-based Outpatient Clinics (HBOC), including verifying third-party information, arranging appointments, and tracking referral status. The role performs routine assignments within established parameters and procedures, receiving daily instructions.

Requirements

• High school education/GED or equivalent is preferred.
• Associate’s/technical degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience is preferred.
• Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), or medical terminology course is preferred.
• Associates are required to receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable; medical and religious exemptions may apply.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with ordering providers and nursing regarding insurance authorizations, denials, peer-to-peer review requests, and referral scheduling difficulties.
• Take telephone requests for authorizations.
• Prepare referral requests.
• Inform patients of appointment information and instructions.
• Maintain electronic health record referral documentation, including adding incoming referrals that were not generated in the EHR.
• Maintain the referral resource document.
• Schedule referral appointments with the appropriate department or referred-to provider.
• Track referral patient compliance and communicate with the referring provider as necessary when patients refuse service or do not attend appointments.
• Submit retroactive authorization requests as needed.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
