Make a difference as a Reference Assistant As a Reference Assistant at the City of Pharr, you will play a crucial role in supporting our community’s informational needs. This position involves performing general library duties and delivering exceptional reference services to patrons by utilizing appropriate reference materials and resources. You will oversee the operations of the reference desk while also managing interlibrary loan (ILL) transactions as required. Your expertise will extend to assisting patrons with Internet searches and navigating various computer programs, empowering them to find the information they seek. Requirements

  • Solid understanding of administrative and clerical procedures
  • Proficiency in word processing, file management, and record-keeping
  • Strong foundation in customer service principles (assessing customer needs, ensuring quality standards, and evaluating satisfaction levels)
  • Proficiency in various software applications, such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Works, Excel, Word Perfect, and PowerPoint
  • Key interpersonal skills include active listening, the ability to engage with patrons thoughtfully, and the capacity to convey information clearly
  • Must pass a thorough criminal background check due to the sensitivity of the information handled by this position.
