Rewarding Work That Will Matter to You Bird Heavy Civil is recruiting a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team. Requirements

  • A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience working in a heavy civil construction environment performing regular maintenance duties associated with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, and John Deere construction equipment.
  • Fall Protection, Power Lines Hazards, Air Brake Endorsement, WHMIS 2015, Utility Safety Training, First Aid, and Lock-Out/Tag-Out Training would be required.
  • Familiar with Safety Instrumented Systems, My Komatsu, and Cummins computer applications.
  • Ability to work proactively and effectively, with excellent organizational and task execution skills.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of standard Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and practices in the construction industry.
  • Must be able to work on rotational basis (14-14 FI-FO) on remote sites/camp accommodations.
  • Must be able to work day and night shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid driver’s license or equivalent would be an asset.
  • Wabush, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair of equipment in a heavy civil construction environment.
  • Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Regular interaction with other construction equipment.
  • Exercise extreme caution with awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of equipment while following manufactures and industry standards in a productive work environment.
  • Attend daily pre-shift meetings and toolbox meetings.
  • Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication (including hand signals) from others and acts accordingly.
  • Other duties as required.
