About The Position

The purpose of a Recycling Program Assistant Non-Supervisory position is to support the City in developing waste reduction, reuse, composting and organics recycling programs as well as conduct outreach activities to the public and to distribute educational materials. Work hours are typically between 7:30am - 4pm with some scheduling flexibility required due to weekend/evening events. This position currently works on-site only. Primarily indoor work in a standard office setting with some field work in the community.

Requirements

• Associates degree or Two Years Post High School Training in Environmental studies, Sustainability, Communications or related fields.
• Two years of related experience.
• Valid Driver's License
• Federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
• Modern office practices, clerical and administrative procedures and equipment.
• Departmental or division policies and procedures.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the development and delivery of waste reduction, reuse, recycling, organics management outreach and educational programs for Minneapolis residents, multi-unit building managers, businesses, and community organizations.
• Maintains a strong network of community organizations and individuals, attends neighborhood and community events aiming to educate residents on waste reduction, reuse, recycling, organics management, and environmental impacts of personal choices.
• Assists in planning and scheduling events and recruit, screen and train volunteers to work in programs or at events.
• Establishes and maintains an accurate internal and external information tracking and reporting systems to evaluate effectiveness of outreach efforts.
• Prepares and gives presentations on projects and programs.
• Other duties as assigned.
