About The Position

Under the supervision of the Environmental Sustainability Director, this part-time position provides materials management support for Eaton County’s Department of Resource Recovery. The role involves operating the department’s Mobile Recycling Program (MRP) in rural communities, collecting recyclable materials such as plastic, metal, glass, paper, cardboard, and batteries for processing at the Sunfield Recycling Center. Responsibilities include baling and managing materials at the recycling center, supporting waste recovery, and assisting with data collection efforts, including county-wide events. No prior recycling knowledge is required. Starting pay is dependent on relevant experience. Applications are accepted until sufficient qualified applications are received or a qualified candidate is identified, and the position may close at any time.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or its equivalent.
  • Data entry experience with a high level of proficiency and accuracy required.
  • Must possess a valid license and favorable driving record.
  • Reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced coursework or previous work experience in logistics, warehousing, environmental science, waste management, communication, education and/or related areas.
  • Some prior office and warehouse/logistics experience including managing data using Microsoft Excel, forklift operations, and inventory management.
  • Exceptional written, interpersonal, and verbal skills.
  • Fork-lift certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the Mobile Recycling Program for rural communities.
  • Travels with staff and the recycling trailer to Eaton County communities on a weekly basis.
  • Assists and educates community members about recycling and source separation of materials.
  • Provides support and assistance to community members using the recycling trailer.
  • Assists in the management of recyclable materials at the Sunfield Recycling Center.
  • Unloads the recycling trailer and sorts recycling materials to the proper location.
  • Assists in inventory, movement, and organizing of recyclable materials.
  • Assists in baling recyclable materials and shipments to manufacturers/brokers.
  • Assists in data collection and reporting.
  • Assists in compiling and communicating materials data to the Director.
  • Communicates with members of the public, community stakeholders, volunteers, and other employees in a positive manner, using active listening to maintain respect and patience.
  • Assists with organizing various events, including moving materials, tables, and displays.
  • Occasionally works evenings or weekends to assist with events and special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
