About The Position

The Recruitment/Retention Specialist performs duties in support of the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) grant relating to the programs, services, and resources available to assist in the recruitment and retention of veteran students. This position establishes a network of resources both within and outside the organization to assist in recruitment and retention efforts, prepares timely written reports, graphs, and statistical data on recruitment and retention efforts, screens and disburses scholarship funds to eligible students, and relieves the director of administrative detail with considerable latitude for exercising judgment and discretion. This is a grant-funded position. The Recruitment/Retention Specialist identifies target populations and develops visitation schedules for project service areas; disseminates informational material to prospective and/or continuing students such as program requirements and class schedules; interviews prospective students on an individual basis and answers questions regarding program requirements and benefits; plans and organizes on-campus recruitment programs for prospective students, plans agenda, schedules speakers, determines length of workshops, and coordinates transportation; plans and develops objectives for recruitment/retention purposes and participates in policy and procedure development; and tracks progress of students through program and counsels students regarding personal and/or academic issues; refers to other sources of counseling as needed. The selected candidate will provide excellent customer service through the use of appropriate written and verbal communications including, but not limited to, telephone, email, voicemail, face-to-face, and written correspondence.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an institution that holds accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and approved by the College with an associate’s degree or appropriate work experience on a year-to-year basis may be substituted for the College degree requirement and experience in administrative and microcomputer applications.
  • Successful result of a criminal background check is required.
  • Must meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.
  • A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment.
  • Must disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and make presentations to individuals or groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite computer software program including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
