About The Position

The Recruitment and Training Coordinator manages the daily administration and coordination of Skills & Training programs at the Gitxsan Learning Centre and Gitxsan Academy, while driving grassroots recruitment campaigns, public relations initiatives, and PPE inventory logistics across the organization. Based on-site in South Hazelton, this role serves as the visible bridge between community members, training programs, and active field employment across GDC subsidiaries. While the HR Manager maintains overall strategy and accountability for recruiting and HR operations, the Coordinator leads on-the-ground candidate engagement, plans and executes outreach campaigns, maps skill and ticket requirements to open job roles, manages safety equipment logistics, and fosters strong local community relationships.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience in training coordination, administrative support, local recruitment assistance, or community outreach.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with strong public outreach and social media abilities.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Service-oriented mindset with multitasking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Friendly, professional, and confident engaging with community members, students, instructors, and leadership.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, social media management, and database tools (e.g., AirTable, UKG).
  • Familiarity with audiovisual (AV) equipment and classroom technology.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (required for local travel and campaign distribution).

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, local band offices, or community-based programs in Northern BC.
  • Familiarity with WorkSafeBC PPE standards, inventory tracking, safety tickets, or vocational training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the HR Manager in planning, executing, and tracking local recruitment campaigns tied directly to active job openings across GDC subsidiaries.
  • Map required safety tickets and certifications (e.g., Safety/First Aid, S100/S185, Traffic Control, Security, Environmental, Logistics) to open job opportunities, educating prospective candidates on clear pathways to employment.
  • Lead local public relations outreach by creating, printing, and distributing flyers, posters, and newsletters across community bulletin boards, band offices, and local print outlets (e.g., Bulkley Valley Browser).
  • Coordinate local recruitment and training updates across GDC social media platforms, monitoring inquiries and managing candidate intake.
  • Represent GDC at local career fairs, employment events, and community gatherings to promote current job vacancies and training opportunities.
  • Manage central inventory, ordering, and logistics for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety gear for field employees and course participants.
  • Issue PPE to new hires during onboarding, ensuring proper sizing, fit, and completion of required HR issuance and sign-out agreements.
  • Deliver basic onboarding instruction regarding the proper care, maintenance, and daily inspection of assigned safety gear.
  • Track PPE lifespans and expiry dates (e.g., hard hats, harnesses) in compliance with WorkSafeBC standards, proactively replacing non-compliant equipment.
  • Coordinate the recovery and inventory reconciliation of high-value PPE during employee offboarding and terminations.
  • Coordinate with Operations Administration to track and allocate PPE inventory costs accurately across GDC subsidiaries (e.g., GES, GSS).
  • Open and close the Gitxsan Learning Centre as required, managing schedules to maximize facility usage.
  • Coordinate training logistics, including room bookings, classroom setup, supplies, instructor support, and participant logistics (e.g., gas cards, hotel accommodations).
  • Register students for training programs, facilitate in-class orientations, and provide basic technical support for classroom computers and software.
  • Manage and maintain the Gitxsan Academy learning software and related systems.
  • Order and maintain classroom and office supplies as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support and encouragement to students to drive successful course completion.
  • Conduct direct phone and word-of-mouth outreach to community members to confirm course attendance and follow up on recruitment inquiries.
  • Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with local band offices, employment coordinators, and regional training partners (e.g., TriCorp).
  • Maintain a welcoming, accessible presence at the Gitxsan Learning Centre for community members seeking job or training guidance.
  • Maintain accurate databases (e.g., AirTable, UKG) for course attendance, training status, certifications, candidate rosters, PPE inventory, and employee records.
  • Scan, upload, and log certificates, tickets, and compliance documentation in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on course completion, facility usage, PPE allocation, and recruitment campaign outreach.
  • Distribute and track post-training participant surveys to measure course effectiveness.
  • Support the HR Manager with candidate intake, initial application screening, interview scheduling, and recruitment administration.
  • Assist with employee onboarding activities, including orientation coordination, policy acknowledgments, PPE fitting/issuance, and training-related documentation.
  • Coordinate and track mandatory employee training, safety ticket renewals, and compliance requirements under HR guidance.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and accuracy of all applicant and employee information in accordance with privacy policies.
  • Contribute to special projects, operational initiatives, and continuous improvement activities that support GDC's growth goals.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to other departments, subsidiaries, or community events as required.
