About The Position

This role focuses on providing comprehensive support and administration for federal retirement and benefits programs. The specialist will be responsible for handling employee inquiries, counseling individuals on various federal programs, interpreting regulations, and processing applications. Key duties include managing case files, conducting orientations and training sessions, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely benefits administration.

Requirements

  • Experience in federal retirement and benefits programs (FERS, CSRS, TSP, FEHB, etc.)
  • Knowledge of federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing retirement and employee benefits.
  • Proficiency in using automated federal HR systems (eOPF, DFAS, EWITS, DPRW).
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in conducting training and presentations.
  • Experience in records management and electronic document handling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to retirement and benefits inquiries in a timely, professional, and accurate manner, with initial acknowledgment within 24 hours (excluding weekends).
  • Counsel employees, managers, retirees, eligible family members, survivors, and beneficiaries on federal retirement and benefits programs, including FERS, FERS-RAE, FERS-FRAE, CSRS, CSRS Offset, FERCCA, TSP, FEHB, FEDVIP, FEGLI, FLTCIP, FSAFEDS, and related programs.
  • Interpret and apply federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing retirement and employee benefits.
  • Research and resolve complex retirement and benefits issues by coordinating with agencies such as OPM, TSP, SSA, and other federal partners.
  • Process retirement applications, benefits actions, and supporting documentation using automated federal HR systems, including eOPF, DFAS, EWITS, DPRW, and other agency systems.
  • Conduct new employee orientation sessions and deliver training and presentations on federal retirement, benefits, and employee entitlements.
  • Coordinate educational sessions and presentations with external organizations, including the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) and Social Security Administration (SSA).
  • Maintain retirement and benefits case files, track workloads, perform periodic case reviews, and ensure accurate electronic records management, including document uploads to eOPF.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to HR staff and management regarding retirement and benefits policies and procedures.
  • Manage multiple priorities while meeting established deadlines and mission requirements.
  • Communicate accurate status updates and maintain professionalism in all written and verbal communications.
  • Collaborate effectively with HR teams, managers, payroll offices, and program officials to ensure timely and accurate retirement and benefits administration.
