About The Position

Works under the direction and supervision of a Recreation Therapist to create, implement, lead, and adapt activities so participants have a positive experience in group and individual activities. The position is typically performed in a clinical environment. The employee is accountable for satisfying job-specific obligations and complying with organization policies and procedures. Additional competencies and skills outlined in department-specific orientation are considered essential to the position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Skills in communication, patient safety, patients’ rights, and therapeutic treatment.

Nice To Haves

• At least 2 years of related work experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Work with the Recreation Therapist to plan, organize, direct, and lead therapeutic activities for participants in large and small groups.
• Adapt activities so individual participants can be successful in programs.
• Assist with developing the monthly activities calendar and daily activities schedule, and ensure the schedule is posted.
• Document daily attendance and note participants’ progress or decline in program involvement.
• Assist with purchasing, organizing, and storing recreational supplies.
• Maintain inventory and distribution of participant name tags coded with information about assistance levels, potential wandering support, and dietary restrictions.
• Collaborate with Personal Care Assistants assigned to activities and assist with personal care needs as needed to promote participant safety and comfort.
