About The Position

The Recreational Therapist performs structured evaluations and develops a treatment plan in conjunction with primary care counselor using therapeutic, recreational, and leisure activities. This role is crucial in making communities healthier by providing exceptional care to patients. The Recreational Therapist will conduct assessments, establish treatment goals, and coordinate therapeutic recreation activities to meet individual patient needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy or related field required.
  • Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Certification.
  • Current Recreational Therapist license.
  • BLS required Handle with Care (within 3 months of hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • One year of experience in Recreational Therapy in a hospital setting preferred, experience in treatment planning and implementation highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.
  • Pre-certifies patient care.
  • Conducts ongoing reviews to authorize continued care.
  • Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.
  • Formulates a goal-directed plan of care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary treatment team utilizing assessment date from the Interdisciplinary Assessments.
  • Updates Treatment Plan weekly or more often as needed.
  • Coordinates therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.
  • Assists with development of discharge plan in timely and documented standards.
  • Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure life styles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.
