About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehab in Frisco, Texas is seeking a PRN Recreation Therapist for their inpatient rehabilitation hospital. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical recreation therapy, with a preference for neurologic experience. This role involves working with diverse neurologic patient populations such as TBI, CVA, and SCI. The candidate should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, possess flexibility, and demonstrate strong teamwork skills. This position collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team, including PT, OT, SLP, Neuropsychology, and Case Management, to provide patient-centered care. Responsibilities include group, 1:1, and co-treatment sessions, as well as community outings. The role requires availability for multiple weekend shifts to meet growing needs.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field.
Current national certification from NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
Strong communication skills.
Strong teamwork skills.
Adaptability to work with diverse patient populations.
Comfortable working with a variety of neurologic patient populations including TBI, CVA, SCI.
Ability to handle a fast-paced work setting.
Flexibility.
Must be available for weekend shifts.

Nice To Haves

Medical recreation therapy experience.
Neurologic experience preferred.
Flexibility to pick up weekday shifts is a plus.

Responsibilities

Plans and implements appropriate recreation activities for patients in accordance with guidelines set by the organization, hospital and the profession.
Responsible for provision of therapeutic recreation intervention for an assigned caseload.
Ensures all patients are oriented to recreation therapy and provides hospital wide leisure, social and divergent programs.
Serves as an educator to patients on community resources.
Works closely with the interdisciplinary team consisting of PT, OT, SLP, Neuropsychology, and Case Management to facilitate patient centered care.
Conducts group, 1:1 and co-treatment sessions.
Facilitates community outings.
