About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehab is seeking a PRN Recreation Therapist to support their inpatient rehab hospital in Frisco, Texas. The ideal candidate will have medical recreation therapy experience, with a preference for neurologic experience. The role involves working with diverse neurologic patient populations such as TBI, CVA, and SCI. The therapist will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including PT, OT, SLP, Neuropsychology, and Case Management, to provide patient-centered care. Responsibilities include planning and implementing recreation activities, providing therapeutic recreation intervention for an assigned caseload, orienting patients to recreation therapy services, and offering hospital-wide leisure, social, and divergent programs. The therapist will also serve as an educator to patients regarding community resources. The position requires availability for weekend shifts and flexibility to pick up weekday shifts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field.
  • Current national certification from NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Adaptability to work with diverse patient populations.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of neurologic patient populations including TBI, CVA, SCI.
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced work setting.
  • Good flexibility.
  • Must be available for weekend shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical recreation therapy experience.
  • Neurologic experience preferred.
  • Flexibility to pick up weekday shifts is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements appropriate recreation activities for patients in accordance with guidelines set by the organization, hospital and the profession.
  • Responsible for provision of therapeutic recreation intervention for an assigned caseload.
  • Ensures all patients are oriented to recreation therapy and provides hospital wide leisure, social and divergent programs.
  • Serves as an educator to patients on community resources.
  • Works closely with the interdisciplinary team consisting of PT, OT, SLP, Neuropsychology, and Case Management to facilitate patient centered care.
  • Conducts group, 1:1 and co-treatment sessions.
  • Participates in community outings.
