Recreational Therapist PRN
About The Position
Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehab is seeking a PRN Recreational Therapist for its outpatient Day Neuro program in Dallas, Texas. The therapist will join a multidisciplinary team serving patients in a day treatment setting, including people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) and acquired brain injuries (ABI). Programs focus on helping patients achieve the highest possible level of independence and reintegrate into the community. Care is provided one-on-one and in small groups to support patients’ return to functional and leisure activities, reduce stress at home, and lessen caregiver burden. A strong working knowledge of adaptive equipment, tools, and resources that support patients and families following SCI and ABI is important. Driving may be required. The PRN rate is $27 per hour.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field.
- Current national certification from NCTRC as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability when working with diverse patient populations.
- Must be available for weekend shifts.
- Strong working knowledge of adaptive equipment, tools, and resources supporting functional outcomes following SCI and ABI.

Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and implement recreational therapy programs tailored to patients’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs.
- Assess patients and create individualized treatment plans to support rehabilitation goals.
- Use therapeutic activities—including arts, music, games, exercise, and community outings—to promote functional improvement.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.
- Educate patients and families about recreational therapy and provide strategies for continued engagement after discharge.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient progress and participate in team meetings to discuss care plans.
- Ensure activities comply with facility policies and safety guidelines.
