The Recreation Therapist assists with all aspects of Recreation Therapy, a service designed to improve or maintain physical, cognitive, social, and emotional functioning, in order to facilitate full participation in life. The unique job functions outlined are designed with a focus on safety and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (ideally in Recreation) with CTRS Certification
  • A minimum of one year experience in Rec Therapy
  • Demonstrates strong and written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates an understanding of child and adolescent developmental issues
  • All Recreation Therapists must have a current CTRS Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides accurate information regarding resident progress to the Director of Recreational Therapy
  • Ensures resident safety during all activities
  • Organizes, implements, and supervises Recreation Therapy activities in accordance with the treatment plans
  • Attends Treatment Team planning and critical reviews as assigned to assure communications are maintained between residential, clinical, and administrative staff regarding recreation services.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements special events
  • Ensures resident hygiene needs are met by completing requisition forms for necessary items including hair cut/ cosmetology needs and monitors resident hygiene boxes for cleanliness. Also ensure all hygiene items are given to residents at time of admission.
  • Creates and posts monthly calendar detailing recreation schedule/ activities
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with goals and interventions for achieving desired outcomes
  • Provides documentation in the clinical record of residential behavior, and interventions provided (and their effectiveness of treatment) using the format and time frame approved by New Hope Treatment Centers.
  • Completes other related tasks as assigned
  • May require evening, weekend, and holiday work
  • Participates in staff growth and development activities
  • Provides direct resident care as needed on and off campus
  • Participates in staff in- service and training programs
  • Serves as a member of the Treatment Team
