About The Position

AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Recreational Therapist Assistant to provide therapeutic recreation services at the Center for the Intrepid (CFI), BAMC, TX. The RTA will plan, lead, evaluate, and document recreational activities designed around individual patient rehabilitation needs and work as part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • Current Therapeutic Recreation Associate (TRA) certification from the Consortium for Therapeutic Recreation/Activities Certification (CTRAC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Maintain applicable OSHA-required training.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience within the last 3 years practicing therapeutic recreation.
  • Experience providing professional recreation therapy to adult outpatients recovering from conditions such as: Amputation, Poly-trauma, Burn injury, Oncologic diagnoses, Neurological diagnoses, Musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas non-commercial driver's license, Type A or C.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Therapeutic recreation planning and implementation.
  • Experience with outdoor, classroom, and aquatic rehabilitation activities.
  • Patient assessment and treatment planning.
  • Ability to work with adults recovering from serious injuries.
  • Strong teamwork and patient communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize and report patient progress or regression.
  • Accurate documentation skills.
  • Active Tier 1 (T1) investigation required before starting work.
  • Government credentialing package required 45–60 days before placement.
  • Must meet BAMC physical examination, immunization, influenza vaccination, and TB-screening requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform services under the general direction of a supervising Occupational Therapist, Program Manager, Service Director, or designated Government representative.
  • Follow BAMC, DHA, DoD, safety, and patient-care requirements.
  • Maintain required credentials and professional competency.
  • Develop, plan, resource, lead, evaluate, and document therapeutic recreational activities.
  • Conduct activities in classroom, outdoor, and aquatic environments.
  • Work with adult outpatients recovering from traumatic injuries and medical conditions.
  • Use assessment tools, functional assessments, and patient interest inventories.
  • Help establish appropriate therapeutic goals and treatment plans.
  • Participate as part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
  • Discuss patient progress or regression with the treatment team.
  • Recommend appropriate modifications to treatment plans.
  • Provide in-service training and follow-up sessions when required.
