About The Position

Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dependable Recreational Technician to join our behavioral health team in Midland, Texas. This role is similar to a Mental Health Technician but focuses primarily on therapeutic recreation, structured activities, patient engagement, and creating a positive treatment environment. If you enjoy working with people, being creative, staying active, and making a difference in the lives of individuals receiving behavioral health treatment, we would love to hear from you!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate patients with different needs and abilities.
  • Creative, energetic, patient, and dependable.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and patient confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in behavioral health, healthcare, recreation, education, childcare, activities, or a related environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with and lead structured recreational and therapeutic activities for patients.
  • Encourage patients to participate in group activities, games, exercise, arts and crafts, leisure activities, and other therapeutic programming.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for patients.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and observation of patients during recreational activities.
  • Assist with setting up, organizing, and cleaning activity areas and supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and communicate professionally with patients.
  • Observe patient behaviors and communicate concerns or significant changes to the appropriate clinical staff.
  • Assist with maintaining patient safety and following established behavioral health safety procedures.
  • Support de-escalation and redirection of patients when appropriate and within training.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, social workers, Mental Health Technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Document patient participation or other required information according to facility procedures.
  • Follow all hospital policies related to patient rights, confidentiality, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and recreational programming.
