Recreational Group Counselor
About The Position
Avenues Recovery Center is hiring a Group Counselor for its Detox and Residential treatment facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The counselor conducts group therapy, psychoeducation, and process groups tailored to clients’ challenges and needs, while helping clients develop healthy coping skills, positive behaviors, and recovery tools. The role involves collaborating with clinical staff to track client challenges and progress, escalating significant client concerns to the Clinical Director, maintaining documentation of group sessions, and ensuring clinical assessments and individual client charting are completed. Avenues Recovery Center is a nationwide network of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers with 21 locations across seven states. Its programs include detox, residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient services.
Requirements
- Valid licensure necessary to practice as a clinician in Virginia: CSAC.
- If in recovery, at least one year of sustained sobriety is required.
- Excellent interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.
- Strong presence and sound judgment.
- Warm, dignified, and honest character that inspires trust and models recovery principles.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
- At least one year of experience in the treatment industry preferred.
Responsibilities
