About The Position

Bring the energy, excitement, and fun to the Coon Rapids Ice Center! As a Recreation Worker, you’ll be right in the middle of the action—serving up snacks and drinks, helping customers in the pro shop, keeping an eye on public skating sessions, and making sure the facility stays clean, safe, and welcoming. Every shift brings something different, and you’ll have a hand in creating a great experience for skaters, families, and hockey fans alike. This seasonal, part-time position offers approximately 8–15 hours per week, including weekends, with hours that fluctuate based on the needs of the Ice Center.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public is essential.
  • Ability to stand and/or skate for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in cool temperatures.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally move, turn, lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision and depth perception.
  • Must be able to operate assigned equipment.
  • Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
  • Must know and practice the city’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Must make workplace safety the top priority.
  • Must contribute positively to a productive, inclusive, and respectful work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience preferred, especially in food service.
  • Proficient skating ability preferred.
  • Ability to promote favorable working relationships with all Ice Center users.
  • Handles confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to perform duties with tact, diplomacy and discretion.
  • Ability to be detail oriented and follow through with tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain a team and service-oriented approach to work.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with City personnel, external vendors and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves food and drink items from Ice Center programs and services.
  • Collects and accounts for the money for Ice Center programs and services.
  • Assists with rental and return of Ice Center skates.
  • Monitors public skating participants, ensuring compliance with Ice Center regulations.
  • Informs Ice Center participants of the availability of City recreational programs and services.
  • Registers participants in Ice Center programs or facilities.
  • Assists with minor maintenance duties, as requested.
  • Checks out locker room keys and communicates any locker room schedule updates to supervisor.
  • Provides effective and respected communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations and citizen customers.
  • Follows oral and written instructions such as supervisor’s work orders and equipment operation manuals.
  • Maintains positive professional working relationships with all staff levels, other jurisdictions and the general public.
  • Regular and reliable attendance during scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
  • Performs other related functions as apparent or delegated.
  • Performs essential duties and responsibilities under the working conditions and physical demands described herein.
